There are healthy foods that will satisfy hunger urges and prevent losing the battle of the bulge when snacking becomes a problem.
Raw vegetables like celery and baby carrots are low calorie foods that are great for a quick snack between meals.
Half sandwiches using whole grain bread, low fat meat and lettuce or tomato are a good alternative that won’t add inches to your waistline.
Some other low calorie food combinations include: apples and milk, fruit and cottage cheese, yogurt and unsalted nuts, and grapes with string cheese.
Food manufacturers have started marketing 100 calorie food packs designed to curb cravings between meals. The portions are small because they are designed for people who snack often, but are interested in eating healthy.
Parents concerned with children who snack too often between meals can make small bags of trail mix to take when traveling.
Some healthy combinations that children enjoy include: multi-grain cereals with dried fruits, unsalted peanuts and a few chocolate chips or animal crackers thrown in to make them fun for the kids.
Measure these travel packs out in half cup portions and seal in plastic bags so they are fresh and ready to go when you and your children are.
Many fast food restaurants have begun offering fruit and other snacks for the health conscious traveler. Yogurt parfaits, which combine fruits or nuts, are available at many restaurants. So if fast food is the only option when hunger strikes, check the menu for one of these healthy snacks.
